AJ Sherwood (TYPE, Death’s A Drag) is a film and video game composer and session musician from Melbourne Australia. He began writing music from a young age and went on to study a bachelor of music composition under established Film Composers; Brett Rosenberg (Half Light, Skeptic) and George Papanicalou (Croker Island Exodus) at Box Hill Institute.
His musical style is based around his two favourite styles, guitar based music and sampling. In film and media these two come together to create interesting textures from the softest emotional cue to large, out of this world hybrid orchestral tracks. This allows AJ to work on a wide array of film and game projects in any style with the idea of innovation and creating something specific for each individual project being paramount.
In 2016 he travelled to Los Angeles and met with composers from Hans Zimmer’s film score company Remote Control Productions; Jim Dooley (Madagascar, Da Vinci Code) & Bryce Jacobs (Rush, CoD:MW3). Also Christopher Young, Penka Kouneva (Prince of Persia: TFS, Starcraft II) and Orchestrator/Composer Tim Davies (La La Land, Frozen, The Last Of Us). With whom he did discussion sessions and master classes with to understand the inner workings of Hollywood film scoring and to learn more about scoring for media.
